Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you may want to know about homoeopathy, its safety, treatment at Aushadha Vanam and online consultation with Dr. Jaidev Khatri.

About Homoeopathy

What is homoeopathy (homeopathy)?

Homoeopathy is a natural system of medicine that uses minute, highly diluted doses of substances from plants, minerals and other natural sources. It works on the principle of "like cures like" and stimulates the body’s own healing power. The medicine is chosen for the individual patient, based on their symptoms, constitution, temperament and overall health.

Is homoeopathy a recognised system of medicine in India?

Yes. Homoeopathy is a recognised system of medicine in India under the Ministry of AYUSH and is regulated by the National Commission for Homoeopathy. Qualified homoeopathic doctors hold a BHMS degree and are registered with the Homoeopathy council.

How is homoeopathy different from other systems of medicine?

Homoeopathy treats the person as a whole, not just the disease. Two patients with the same disease may get different medicines, because the doctor considers each person’s physical symptoms, mind, habits and history. The aim is to correct the underlying tendency, not only to suppress symptoms.

Which conditions can be treated with homoeopathy?

Homoeopathy is used for a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, including piles, allergies, tonsillitis, sinusitis, skin diseases, hair fall, joint pain, digestive complaints, women’s and children’s health problems, stress and sleep problems. It is especially valued for long-standing and recurring complaints.

Safety & Side Effects

Do homoeopathic medicines have side effects?

No. Homoeopathic medicines do not have side effects when prescribed by a qualified homoeopathic doctor. They are given in minute, highly diluted doses, so they do not cause the toxic effects, drowsiness, acidity, dependence or damage to the liver and kidneys that are linked with many conventional medicines. They are also non-habit-forming, so you can stop them when the treatment is complete.

Is homoeopathy safe for children, pregnant women and the elderly?

Yes. Because the medicines are gentle and given in tiny doses, homoeopathy is safe for newborns, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women and elderly patients. Children also like the sweet taste of the pills, which makes treatment easy.

Can I take homoeopathy along with my other (allopathic) medicines?

Yes, in most cases homoeopathy can be taken alongside other medicines. Please tell Dr. Khatri everything you are taking. Do not stop any medicine prescribed by another doctor without speaking to that doctor first.

Is it safe for people with diabetes to take sweet homoeopathic pills?

Yes. The amount of sugar in the small globules is very small. If needed, Dr. Khatri can give your medicine as liquid drops in water instead.

Will my symptoms get worse when I start homoeopathy?

Most patients feel steady improvement. Occasionally there may be a brief, mild increase in symptoms at the start, which settles on its own and is usually a sign that the medicine is acting. Simply inform the clinic and we will guide you.

Treatment at Aushadha Vanam

What happens at the first consultation?

The first visit is longer than a routine visit. Dr. Khatri takes a full case history covering your complaint, past illnesses, family history, sleep, appetite, habits, emotions and temperament. Please bring old reports and the list of medicines you take.

How long does homoeopathic treatment take?

It depends on the condition and how long you have had it. Recent problems often settle quickly, while long-standing or recurring complaints need regular treatment and follow-up over a few months. Dr. Khatri will explain what to expect at your first visit.

How often do I need to come for follow-up?

Medicines are usually given for one to two weeks at a time. Our clinic team calls you before your medicine finishes to remind you of your follow-up, so your progress is reviewed regularly.

Are there any food restrictions during homoeopathic treatment?

Take the medicine with a clean mouth, about 15–20 minutes before or after food, drink or brushing. Strong-smelling substances such as raw onion, garlic, coffee, mint and camphor may be best avoided around the time of the dose. Dr. Khatri will give you specific advice.

Can homoeopathy help me avoid surgery for piles or tonsillitis?

Many patients with early and moderate piles, and children with recurrent tonsillitis or adenoids, respond very well to homoeopathy and are able to avoid surgery. Dr. Khatri will assess your case and tell you what to expect.
